What are Archea?
Archaea are prokaryotes that live in extreme places. They may live in places that are
extremely hot, cold, acidic, etc. With this discovery, archaea are also called
extremophiles.
Classifications of Archaea
- Halophiles are archaea that live in extremely salty areas.
- Acidophiles are archaea that live in extremely acidic places.
- Thermophiles are archaea that live in extremely hot areas.
- Methanogens are archaea that are found in areas with methane.
- Psychrophiles are archaea that live in extremely cold places.
- Alkaliphiles are archaea that thrive in alkaline environments with a pH of 9 to 11.
